The Joan Brix Carter Library provides a streamlined system for borrowing books, reserving items ahead of time, and renewing materials to support long-term projects. Whether you’re working on an architecture studio assignment, preparing a visual design portfolio, or conducting theological or historical research, our services help you stay organized and focused on your work.
Browse our growing print collection located in Penrose Hall and check out books, media, and reference materials using your student or faculty library account.
Borrowing privileges are designed to give you enough time to read, study, and apply what you learn—while ensuring fair access for the entire academic community.
If a book you need is currently checked out or in high demand, you can place a reservation request.
Once the item becomes available, you will receive a notification to pick it up at the library service desk.
Renew materials easily if you need more time—especially for long research projects or extended studio work.
Renewals can be requested online or at the service desk, as long as the item has not been reserved by another user.
If you need help finding sources, navigating databases, or identifying materials for your project, our library team is here to support you.
You can contact the circulation staff by email at library@elkinsartschool.org with any questions or concerns.
You are also welcome to speak directly with the staff on duty at the Joan Brix Carter Library—they can assist you with locating books, exploring digital resources, and guiding your research in the right direction.
Whether you’re working on an architecture studio project, an art or design assignment, or a theological research paper, feel free to reach out. We’re here to help you succeed in your academic and creative work.
